Collection: Tomoko Sakai

Tomoko Sakai

Based in Kagawa, Tomoko Sakai creates both porcelain and yakishime, two contrasting bodies connected through her deep commitment to wood firing. Her porcelain pieces are fired in a down-draft wood kiln for as long as two days.

Sakai embraces the interaction between the body, material and elements. Her pieces are hand-built, or thrown on kick wheel. Clay, wood, and fire each leave their imprint on the final piece, giving her works both delicacy and depth.
